ABOUT POOKKAD KALALAYAM
Pookkad Yuvajana Kalalayam was formed on 30th August 1974 at Chemanchery of Kozhikode District in Kerala State and rechristened ‘Pookkad Kalalayam’. Kalalayam started with a handful of students has now blossomed to a large institution with thousands of students at Main centre at Pookkad and another centre at Ulliyeri. In addition to training in various art forms, Kalalayam extended its activities widely to include all section of the society by presenting dramas, forming Bala Bhavan, Ladies Forum, Youth Club, Childrens Theatre, Film Society, and Health Club. Thus began the great saga of Pookkad Kalalayam.
Founders

Padma Shri Guru Chemancheri Kunhiraman Nair
He is a widely respected nonagenarian teacher and practitioner of Kathakali and Classical Dance, despite his age he remains actively involved in stage performances. He is a great guru who embodies love and human values and his humility is deeply admired. He is a remarkable performer known for his exceptional skills. He has received numerous awards throughout his career including Padma Shri and Vyo Shrestha Award and he is the heart and soul of Cheliya Kathakali Vidyalayam.

Sri. Sukumaran Bhagavathar
Wellknown vocalist , Master of Harmonium vadan and a great musician at ease with a variety of musical instruments. His exceptional talent in performing the 'Jalatharamgam Kacheri' has garnered widespread praise. He is also a distinguished figure in the field of theater, recognized for his outstanding acting skills and expertise as a makeup artist. As a highly regarded music teacher, he has a large number of disciples. He has been honored with the prestigious Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award.

Sivadas Chemancheri
He is a renowned Tabla artist and teacher who attained mastery of the instrument at a remarkably early age. He has had the honor of accompanying esteemed musicians such as Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Jayachandran and Chitra. He spent a considerable amount of time collaborating with the celebrated Music Director G. Devarajan Master. Additionally, he has extensive knowledge and skill in playing the Mrudangam and Ganjira. Throughout the Malabar area, he has nurtured and mentored hundreds of disciples who have been inspired by his expertise. Sivadas Chemancheri received the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Guru Pooja Award.
