Varnothsavam is the festival of colors and artifacts during January which include state level drawing and painting competition and exhibition of paintings which started in 1982. Now the Grama Panchayath and more than 20 educational institutions have joined together with Kalalayam to celebrate this mega event.
10 days long Sangeethothsavam started in 1988 for the promotion of Classical Music. And it is celebrated during October along with “Navarathri Fest”. Prominent singers like Dhakshina Moorthy , Mavelikkar Prabha Varma, Neyyattinkara Vasudean, Remesh Narayanan, Lalitha-Nandini (Chennai), Puthokkode S Krishnan, Guruvayoor Dwarai, Kalamandalam Hyderali, Trichy Ganesh, Dr. K Omanakkutty, Sukumari Narendra Menon, Himanshu Nanda etc have performed in various Musical fest.
Grameenam is the folk art fest conducted since 1994 and is celebrated during the month of May every year. Various folk arts of Kerala as well as other states are presented in Grameenam. Proper documentation, preservation and propagation of Folk arts are also planned.
Sargothsavam is the annual cultural festival of Kalalayam Ulliyeri Centre which is generally conducted during December. Classical/folk/western dances, music concerts, drama, folk arts etc are the main items presented in “Sargothsavam”. Sargothsavam has become the cultural fest of Ulliyeri Grama Panchayath.
Children’s Theatre Festival
Since the inception of “Kalalayam Bala Bhavan” in 1999, theatre camps were conducted for the children. From 2013 it was named as “Kali Aattom”. From 2013 onwards “Mambazhakkalam” run by Vyloppilli Sanskrithi Bhavan, an off shoot of Kerala Government Cultural department is conducted along with “Kali Aattom”. “Kali Aattam” includes children’s theatre camp, all Kerala children’s theatre festival and children’s study festival. Vyloppilli Sanskrithi Bhavan has declared that this is the largest children’s Fest of this kind in Kerala state. Theatre for the total development of children is the proclaimed motto of Pookkad Kalalayam.
Cultural Fest during “Onam”
Pookad Kalalayam was born on Thiruvonam day of 1974. The anniversary of Kalalayam is celebrated in a with gaiety and enthusiasm. Classical/Folk/Western dances, dramas, music concerts, orchestra painting exhibition and many other cultural programs are staged during Onam season. Kalalayam being in the vicinity of renowned tourist centre Kappad, the Tourism Department of Kerala State Government is extending their co operation for the celebration. Foreign and domestic tourists can enjoy various art form of south India in this cultural fest known as “Avani Poovarang”.
“Sukritham” is the birth day celebration of the founder member of Kalalayam, Malabar Sukumaran Bhagavathar who expired in 2001 and the main founder organizer T.P Damodaran Nair who expired in 2013. Literary competitions for school students of Chemanchery Grama Panchayath, state level competition for Karnatic classical music, music concerts etc are the main attraction of “Sukritham”.
